How to get married in Big Sur:

CALIFORNIA STATE MARRIAGE LAWS + BIG SUR ELOPEMENT PERMITS:

Marriage License: before you can have your Big Sur Elopement, you’ll need a California state marriage license.

• Both of you must be at least 18 years old, and you must apply for and sign for the license in person.
• The cost for a public marriage license is $84.
• There’s no waiting period, so you can get your license in the morning and get married in the afternoon.
• A ceremony must occur within 90 days from the date the license is issued. *a ceremony may take place anywhere within the state of California

Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park offers one of the most iconic and diverse elopement settings in Big Sur. This park gives you access to coastal bluffs, redwood forest, and waterfall views all in one location – making it ideal for couples who want variety without traveling far. One of the most known places to elope in Big Sur – Pfeiffer Beach is also one of the most visited beaches. it’s knowns for the iconic arch and its purple sand. It’s located within the Los Padres National Forest and is one of the most visited beaches in Big Sur. Pfeiffer beach is known for its iconic keyhole arch and purple sand. Despite it being a more popular location, it shouldn’t be checked off your list because if you hit it just right, it’s truly magical to experience and is located super close to some other really neat spots.

• McWay Falls overlook (for portraits and views – ceremonies are restricted)
• Bluff trails above the waterfall with expansive ocean views
• Redwood groves tucked just inland for a quieter, forested ceremony

ANDREW MOLERA STATE PARK:

This park features meadows, beaches, and coastal bluffs, providing a variety of backdrops for your elopement. It’s a less crowded option with plenty of natural beauty. Encompassing meadows, coastal bluffs, and pristine beaches. The park’s scenic trails lead visitors through golden fields, offering panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and the rugged coastline. Okay, Carmel by the Sea is on the northern side near Garrapata State Park and this little town is so fucking cute! There are tons of little boutique hotels, Airbnb’s, amazing sea food restaurants, wine bars, and super cute shops! If you love little town adventures, you defiantly should check out staying in the little downtown area!

Why couples love staying in Carmel:

• Amazing restaurants and wine bars
• Easy access to Big Sur (about 30–45 minutes south)

Monterey
