Intimate elopements along California’s wild coastline

If you’re dreaming of an intimate elopement surrounded by dramatic cliffs, crashing waves, and misty redwood forests, Big Sur is one of the most breathtaking places to say your vows. As a Big Sur elopement photographer, I help couples plan and document intentional, adventure filled elopements that feel effortless, meaningful, and deeply personal — without the stress of a traditional wedding.

Whether you’re exchanging vows on a cliffside overlooking the Pacific or tucked away beneath towering redwoods, your Big Sur elopement deserves to be experienced fully and remembered beautifully.

Your Big Sur Elopement Photographer

That’s me, Rylee!!

I’m not just here to take photos – I’m here to guide you through the entire experience. As your Big Sur elopement photographer, I help you navigate everything from choosing the right location to planning a timeline that works with the light, weather, and natural flow of the day.

Big Sur is stunning, but it can also be unpredictable. Fog rolls in fast, parking is limited, and permits matter. Having someone who knows the area and understands how to work with these elements makes a huge difference – especially when your only focus should be on each other.

My approach is calm, intentional, and documentary-driven, capturing your elopement exactly as it unfolds while giving gentle guidance when you need it. Here’s what it’s like to work with me.

I’m not just here to take photos

When you book your Big Sur elopement with me, you’re getting more than photography. I help with:

01. Custom Location Scouting

Think: California’s most epic overlooks, tucked away trails, and hidden gems you won’t find on Google. I’ll help you scout out the perfect spot that feels like you.

02. Unlimited Planning Resources

I’ve helped tons of couples pull off incredible days, and I’m sharing all my tips, tricks, and go to advice so you’re never left wondering what’s next.

03. Photos That Feel Like You!

Forget the awkward poses. I’m here to capture the real stuff! Those little moments you’ll want to relive over and over again.

Why Elope in Big Sur?

You deserve an day that feels like the start of your greatest adventure.

Imagine – a day with no limits, stress or expectations

..the kind of experience that actually feels like you.

  • Quiet coastal vows: A sunrise ceremony above the cliffs or tucked into the redwoods – just the two of you, the ocean below, and the sound of the waves rolling in.
  • Intentional Moments: Time for the things that make the day feel real – a picnic, handwritten letters, champagne toasts, or an intimate ceremony with your closest people.
  • Big Sur stays: From secluded cliffside cabins to forest hideaways, where slow mornings, coastal air, and golden-hour light become part of the story.
  • Exploration built in: Winding Highway 1 drives, hidden overlooks, chasing light between the cliffs and the coast – letting curiosity lead the way.
  • Late night celebrating: Watching the sun dip into the Pacific, ending the day wrapped in blankets, headlamps glowing, and the ocean still humming below.
  • Multi-day elopements: One day fully immersed in the wild beauty of Big Sur, with the option to celebrate with family later – without compromising the intimacy of your experience.

Just the two of you, an epic view, and a story worth remembering.

Leave No Trace “LNT”

Leave No Trace is a set of ethics that everyone who recreationally uses the outdoors should strive to practice in order to do their part in protecting the environment. It is made up of 7 principles that guide decisions to leave the least amount of impact possible on outside spaces:

  1. Plan ahead and prepare
  2. Travel and camp on durable surfaces
  3. Dispose of waste properly
  4. Leave what you find
  5. Minimize campfire impacts
  6. Respect wildlife
  7. Be considerate of other visitors

To best follow leave no trace, you should do research beforehand so that you can make a plan to stick to trails and other durable surfaces, be ready to leave everything you find and pack out everything that you bring in, and be prepared in case you encounter any local wildlife. Following the Leave No Trace ethics helps preserve outdoor spaces and our access to them by making sure that we use them sustainability and responsibly. © 1999 by the leave no trace center for outdoor ethics: www.lnt.org

Big Sur Elopement FAQ’s

It really depends on the kind of elopement experience you’re dreaming of. Spring and fall are ideal for avoiding crowds while still enjoying gorgeous coastal views and wildflowers along Highway 1. Summer is popular thanks to long golden days, but comes with more tourists and limited lodging. Winter can be beautifully moody in Big Sur, perfect for cozy, misty vibes — but also brings the chance of rain and road closures. No matter the season, there’s a unique kind of magic waiting for your Big Sur elopement.

Big Sur has no shortage of epic elopement backdrops, which can make it feel overwhelming to choose just one. But don’t worry — based on your vision, preferences, and accessibility needs, I’ll help you narrow it down. Want dramatic cliff views? Quiet forest trails? A redwood grove or hidden beach cove? I’ll create a custom location list that feels like you and keeps logistics easy.

California makes it pretty simple to elope! You’ll need to apply for a marriage license – which you can do in any county in the state (even if you’re getting married somewhere else). No waiting period, no witnesses required.

Absolutely. You don’t have to have it all figured out — that’s what I’m here for! Whether you’re just starting to explore the idea of a Big Sur elopement or already have some ideas in mind, I’ll guide you through the entire planning process: from location scouting and permits to timelines, vendor recs, and crafting a day that feels 100% like you.

Not at all! One of the best parts of eloping in Big Sur is how many stunning ceremony spots are accessible with little to no hiking. From breathtaking cliffs and redwood groves just steps from the road, to quiet hidden beaches, we’ll find a location that matches your vibe, whether that’s laid-back and easygoing or a bit more adventurous.

Definitely! Elopements in Big Sur can be just the two of you, or include a small group of your closest people. We’ll just want to be mindful of location rules, parking availability, and guest limits (many Big Sur parks have caps). If you’re dreaming of an intimate gathering with your crew, we’ll find a spot that works beautifully.
